IND vs ENG 3rd Test: England's star Test batter Joe Root lauded Jofra Archer and described him as the side's X-factor for making a huge impact in his comeback Test cricket match against India at Lord's. Archer, who was playing in the longest format after four years, delivered on the third ball as he took the wicket of India's star opener Yashasvi Jaiswal.
Bowling at the speed of 140 kph, Archer bowled a peachy delivery and the ball hit the leg stump line and got the leading edge the fielder standing at slip cordon took the catch and thus made a brilliant comeback to this format.
Root, during the post-match press conference, heaped praises on the fast bowler, who had gone through long injury layoffs ever since he had become England's upcoming fast bowler.
“It was class, wasn't it? It's just the genuine joy of seeing him back playing Test cricket. Taking that wicket, making things happen — the impact he adds to the group is huge in the dressing room and also out on the field,” he added.
Talking about Archer's ability to turn the tide in their favor by bowling brilliantly, Root called him a match-winner.
“He is an X-factor player, and he's shown that in white-ball cricket for England and the IPL. In big games, he turns up and does things that other players can't. He showed that again today,” he said.
Archer dismissing Jaiswal played a huge role for the host. Root reckoned that Archer's inclusion has strengthened their bowling attack and has thus given them an upper edge.
“One thing you will say about it is that he complements the rest of the attack. At different points throughout the game, they're going to have to work together to take 20 wickets if we are to win this game. It’s a nice start for him — great to see him smiling, enjoying his cricket, and making a huge impact right at the start of the innings” he concluded.
The Ben Stokes-ld side has the upper edge as they had dismissed India's top batters. Since Archer spearheaded England's fast bowling attack, they will try to put the pressure back on the visitors and continue their dominance in the game as they are aiming to lead the ongoing series at the Lord's Cricket Ground.
