IND vs ENG 3rd Test: Rishabh Pant went off the field on the first day of the third Test between India and England at Lord’s after sustaining a finger injury in the afternoon session. Dhruv Jurel came onto the field and took over the wicketkeeping duties.

The visitors had suffered a huge blow as star wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant had sustained a finger injury on Day 1at Lord's. He was hit on the tip of his left index finger as he dove towards the leg side while trying to stop a wide ball in Jasprit Bumrah's over.

He was reeling in excruciating pain and was also seen getting treatment from the physios after a few minutes. He then started playing for a while and then was seen going back to the dressing room after two overs.

Dhruv Jurel had become the substitute and he immediately replaced Pant as the wicket-keeper.

“Update: #TeamIndia vice-captain Rishabh Pant got hit on his left index finger. He is receiving treatment at the moment and is under the supervision of the medical team. Dhruv Jurel is currently keeping wickets in Rishabh’s absence," the BCCI had stated on its official social media account.

When Pant was getting his treatment on the sidelines, Jurel was brilliant as the wicket-keeper. He wasn't talkative and encouraging like Pant but took a brilliant catch to dismiss Ollie Pope in Ravindra Jadeja's over and gave the Men in Blue the much-needed breakthrough.

Nitish Kumar Reddy was the pick among the Indian bowlers as he had taken two wickets and left the hosts at 251/4 and was enquired about any updates on Pant's injury during the post-match press conference but couldn't reveal anything.

“To be honest, I just came off the field and I don’t know anything about it. I haven’t heard anything, but we will hear more tomorrow morning before we go back" Reddy told reporters during the post-match press conference.

There's no clarity as to whether Pant would be the wicket-keeper or bat during the third Test match, whereas Jurel would be replacing him for the rest of the match as the wicket-keeper but as per the rules he won't be allowed to bat.

As per Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC)’s law 24.1.2: “A substitute shall not bowl or act as captain but may act as wicket-keeper only with the consent of the umpires."

A substitute player can only bat or bowl when someone from the playing XI has got a concussion. And if Pant doesn't return to the field, then the Shubman Gill-led side will have to play the rest of the Test series as one batter short.
