India beat New Zealand by 48 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. Excellent win for the hosts.

Rinku Singh finishes with 20-ball 44 as India put on 238 for 7 at the end of 20 overs. The hosts kept losing wickets in the 11 to 20th over but the scorecard kept kicking. New Zealand need 239 to win the first T20I.

Hardik Pandya falls to Jacob Duffy. He was targetting that mid-wicket boundary but couldn't evade Mark Chapman fielding at the boundary. Axar Patel is the new batter in.

Suryakumar is also looking in promising touch as he smashed a couple of boundaries to take out 11 runs from the over. This is an outstanding effort from India so far with the bat.

Suryakumar Yadav is playing his 100th T20I match for India. He has joined Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya in an elite list. 

"We were looking to bowl first because we felt there was dew around 8.30 during our practice. But we don't mind putting runs on the board and we have done well batting first. Shreyas, Harshit, Bishnoi and Kuldeep are the ones who are missing out," Suryakumar said.

There is no place for Kuldeep Yadav in India's playing XI as confirmed by the skipper Suryakumar Yadav. Shreyas Iyer, Harshit Rana and Ravi Bishnoi are the other three players on the bench today. 

Star pacer Kristian Clarke is making his T20I debut for New Zealand. 

New Zealand have won the toss and have opted to bowl first against India in the first T20I match in Nagpur. 

Ahead of the T20I series against New Zealand, India suffered a couple of massive blows. Tilak was ruled out of the first three T20I matches against New Zealand after undergoing testicular torsion surgery.

On the other hand, Washington Sundar has also been ruled out with a side strain.
