IND vs WI 1st Test: The 2.0 version of KL Rahul is here to stay, and India's star opener in the longest format has been performing well after the retirements of Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma from this format. He led India's batting attack from the front during the Test series against England, where he scored 532 runs after playing in five Test matches. He maintained his sublime form and a flying start to the home season as he smashed his 11th Test ton on the second day of the ongoing Test match.

After Rahul had smashed his 11th Test century as an opener, ex-India cricketer Ravi Shastri dismissed a misconception that his batting position is a hindrance in this format.

For a long time, Rahul was performing inconsistently as he never really batted at one position. But Shastri revealed some facts and said that after 2016, he had been batting as an opener in 94 matches of 110, and that's why he never understood the logic behind this discussion.

"It's a misconception that he has gone up and down the order. Because if you actually look at his career, since that Test he opened (2016 against England), he has opened in 94 innings and there have been a total of 110 innings in that period," Shastri was heard as saying on air.

“So, it is 90 per cent of the time that he has opened the innings. It's because of the mix in white-ball cricket that you get a little confused,” he concluded.

Rahul fails to go big

The star batter got distracted during the first over post lunch on the second day and got out in Jomel Warrian's over. He had smashed a ton off 197 balls in which he had hit 12 fours.

During the second day, Dhruv Jurel and Ravindra Jadeja also smashed hundreds and put the hosts in the driver's seat. They are leading by 286 runs, where Jadeja and Washington Sundar were out in the middle.

In the first innings, Mohamme Siraj's four-fer helped the team skittle the visitors out for 162 runs.
