IND vs SA: The BCCI will be having a selection meeting on Sunday in Mumbai to announce India's white-ball teams for the series against South Africa. As per India Today, KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant are the two contenders to lead the team, and Rohit Sharma won't play as a skipper.
Pant has been in sublime form in the shortest format, but owing to his limited time in ODIs, it might affect the selectors' decision. The last time he played in this format was in August 2024 against Sri Lanka.
Shubman Gill will most likely not be selected as he had injured his neck in the series opener, and this is why he was also ruled out of the ongoing match in Guwahati. Pant is currently leading the team from the front in the ongoing Test match. Gill had suffered the injury on Day 2 of the series opener, where he didn't bat for the rest of the game.
As per India Today, the team management won't take any risk with Gill owing to a hectic schedule. They might give him rest from the series to make sure that he recovers fully for the important matches.
RAHUL PANT'S PERFORMANCE AS CAPTAIN
KL Rahul has led India in 12 ODIs and one T20I, where the team has won nine matches. He has scored 302 runs as captain in ODIs at a staggering average of 33.55 and a strike rate of 82.28, which includes 4 fifties. At the same time, Pant has led the side in five T20Is but hasn't led a team in ODIS.
Post the second Test in Guwahati, the host will face South Africa for an ODI series next month, which will be held in Ranchi, Raipur, and Visakhapatnam. The five-match T20I series will be played after this in Cuttack, Mullanpur, Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Ahmedabad.
