Since India's white-ball series against Bangladesh has been called off, speculations are rife that the BCCI and Sri Lanka cricket did discuss playing a bilateral series between these two teams in August this year. The Men in Blue were supposed to head to Bangladesh for a three-match T20I and ODI series. But the BCCI revealed earlier this month that the upcoming series would be held in September next year owing to a hectic international calendar for both teams.
According to Sri Lanka's newswire.lk, the Indian team would be going to Sri Lanka to participate in a white-ball series. It further revealed that the boards of both countries are exploring ways of logistics for both teams. The supposed series will have three T20I and ODI series and thus both teams will have enough time to prepare for their future series.
While looking for an available window, the Lanka Premier League, which was supposed to be held in July and August, has also been called off. And with the tournament getting rescheduled, it has only cleared their domestic calendar and has made space for international bilateral series.
And with India's series getting called off, it has only made the windows for more bilateral series being made available. At the same time, the Sri Lankan cricket team will be going to Zimbabwe for a bilateral series beginning next month. This will make the mid-August window available for the second and the third weeks and that's the only window available for Sri Lanka to host India and that too without any clash.
The last time the Men in Blue visited the island nation was way back in 2024, which also began Gautam Gambhir's stint as the head coach of the national team. The Men in Blue did win the T20I series but then the host clinched the three-man ODI series by 2-0.
Although an official announcement is yet to be made for the upcoming series, fans of both teams are eagerly waiting for the thrilling action if everything falls into place. An announcement will be made soon once the logistical issues and the broadcast-related issues have been solved.
