India spinner Varun Chakravarthy has been ruled out of the ongoing three-match T20I series against Afghanistan in New Delhi. Chakravarthy, who played in the first T20I, felt sudden discomfort in the left side of his abdomen while bowling his third over. He was unable to continue after the issue surfaced during the match.

The Daily Jagran had earlier reported that Chakravarthy would miss the remainder of the series. There are also concerns over his availability for the upcoming Asian Games 2026.

What happened to Varun Chakravarthy?

The BCCI confirmed Chakravarthy’s withdrawal from the Afghanistan series in a post on X, stating that the spinner experienced discomfort while bowling his third over in the first T20I.

"Varun Chakaravarthy experienced sudden-onset discomfort in his left lateral abdominal region while bowling his third over in the first T20I. Scans have revealed a side strain, and he has subsequently been ruled out of the remaining two T20Is," BCCI posted on X.

Coming back to the second T20I, India captain Shreyas Iyer opted to bowl against Afghanistan, and Ravi Bishnoi replaced injured Varun Chakravarthy. Afghanistan, who suffered a seven-wicket defeat in the series opener, are featuring with the same playing XI.
