Former India opener Shikhar Dhawan is confident that the senior players captain Rohit Sharma and talisman batter Virat Kohli will guide the team to a third consecutive Test series triumph in Australia in the upcoming Border Gavaskar Trophy, later this month.
Having won a Test series in Australia, India shattered the drought in the 2018-19 series and wrapped up the Border Gavaskar Trophy as well Down Under in 2020-21. However, their recent Test series 0-3 defeat against New Zealand on home soil has raised eyebrows about Rohit's ability to inspire the team to a hat-trick of series victory in Australia.
Skipper Rohit and Kohli have come under the hot scanner, following their subpar display with the bat.
In the three Tests against New Zealand, captain Rohit amassed just 91 runs with the highest of 52 run knock in Bengaluru. Meanwhile, Kohli was also not at his best in the series as the right-hander scored just 93 runs across six innings.
“I believe we have a solid chance to bag a hat-trick of title wins in Australia. We’ve done exceptionally well in the last two series there. I’m sure the team will go to Australia with a positive, winning mindset. Rohit, Virat, and even Bumrah have played extensively in Australia, and they’ll share their experiences with the younger players," Dhawan told the Times of India.
“This new generation is confident, motivated, and eager to perform. They’ve established themselves quickly on the international stage, which is a tremendous advantage for us in Australia. And though pace is always a challenge there, our batters are well-prepared to handle it.”
