India vs Australia ODI Series: Legendary cricketer Sunil Gavaskar has thrown his weight behind Indian stalwarts Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma to make a thunderous comeback in the Adelaide ODI, following a lacklustre outing in Perth.

The eagerly awaited return of Kohli and Rohit to international action was marred by a forgettable outing in Perth as the duo only managed just 8 and 0, respectively, on a tricky surface.

Australia exploited India's batting vulnerabilities, sealing a seven-wicket victory to take a 1-0 lead in the series.

Despite batting moguls' recent struggles, Gavaskar remains undeterred, emphasising it's only a matter of time before the duo will break free from their lean patch and deliver big scores.

"They were playing on probably the bounciest pitch in Australia. It wasn't going to be easy, especially for players who haven't played international cricket for a couple of months. It was challenging even for Shubman Gill and Shreyas Iyer, who play regularly," Gavaskar was quoted as saying by India Today.

Gavaskar's positivity about India's opportunities remains persistent, despite Kohli and Rohit's recent scrabble.

"India are still a very, very good team. Don't be surprised if Rohit and Kohli score big in the next two games. The more they play, the more time they spend in the nets, the quicker they'll find their rhythm. Once they're back among the runs, India's total will be 300, 300-plus," Gavaskar added.

Adelaide's hallowed turf for the second ODI beckons as the perfect platform for India's revival, with Kohli boasting a superior record at the stadium, which could prove to be a stimulus for a strong comeback.

In four ODIs at the Adelaide Oval, Kohli has scored 244 runs at an average of 61, including two centuries. His Test record there is even more remarkable, with 537 runs in five matches at an average of 53.70, featuring three hundreds.
