India vs New Zealand Highlights, World Cup Semifinal: Shami's Seven-wicket Haul After Tons From Kohli, Iyer Seals Final Berth For India

Mohammad Shami has been adjudged as the Player of the Match as finished with 7/57 in his 9.5 overs.

"I was waiting for my turn. I wasn't playing much white ball cricket. I had in mind, we talk about a lot of things like yorkers and slower balls. I tried to take wickets with the new ball. I try to take as many as I can with the new ball. I dropped the catch of Kane. I felt bad. I tried to take pace off. They were playing their shots. So, I took a chance. The wicket was good. There was the fear of dew. The grass was cut off nicely. The runs were enough. Had dew come in, things could have been bad. The slower balls might not have worked. I feel amazing. This is a huge platform. We lost in the semis in the 2015 and the 2019 WC. Looking to cash in with the chance I have been given. We don't know when all of us will get a chance like this again."

Shami put the final nail in the coffin as he finished with seven wickets. India have won the first semi-final by 70 runs. India are in the finals.

Wicket! Phillips was the first to fall against Kuldeep. Shami gets his five-for as he removes Mitchell for 134.

Wicket! Bumrah gives India a vital breakthrough. This partnership was looking dangerous but has been broken now. Bumrah takes his first as he removes Phillips for 41. New Zealand lose their fifth wicket.

These two batters have stitched a crucial partnership here and this is yet another concern for India as the equation remains gettable. Another disappointing over from Siraj as he gave away 12 runs off it.

Wicket! Shami is on fire at the moment. Two in the over for him. Things have come alive for India with the double blow. Williamson was the first one to go as he found Suryakumar in the deep. Latham registered another failure as he headed to the pavilion without scoring any run.

Daryl Mitchell reaches his hundred in 85 balls. This is his second of this tournament.

This is so heart-breaking. That should've been taken from Shami. This can prove costly. Two chances were created by Bumrah in that over as he will be so disappointed that India didn't capitalise on that. Eight runs came off that.

Fifty! Mitchell has been brilliant today so far and gets the reward for this by reaching yet another fifty. This is his fourth 50+ score in this World Cup. That was a bit silly from Jadeja to give away a four in an overthrow. Seven runs came off that over.

This partnership is going well for New Zealand and runs are coming a bit easy for them at the moment with Williamson and Mitchell at the crease. They need more than a few at every crucial moment to come closer to the target. Indian bowlers are struggling with the line as well and are leaking boundaries in every over.

The job looks to have become even more tougher after the two wickets. Williamson and Mitchell will be eyeing a partnership here to keep things stable for a while. They also have to keep the run rate in the mind as they have a tough job to chase down a massive target.

Wicket! There's another for India, there's another one for Shami. Brilliant bowling this from him. Ravindra got a slight edge and Rahul once again made no mistake behind the wickets. Ravindra departs for 13 as New Zealand go two down.

Wicket! Shami strikes in his very first ball of the match. He has been on fire in this tournament. KL Rahul takes a stunning catch behind the wickets as Conway departs for 13. New Zealand lose their first wicket.

Good start from New Zealand and the intent was shown straight away with the boundaries early in the innings. They'll have to keep the momentum throughout the 50 overs in order to come even closer to the target. Seven runs came off that Bumrah's over.

Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra have taken the crease for New Zealand as they begin their run chase at the Wankhede Stadium.

On the back of some iconic knocks, India have finished the innings on 397 for 4 at the end of 50 overs.

With just 2 overs left, it will take a huge task for New Zealand bowlers to restrict India below 380. Shreyas Iyer, who is looking to go ballistic on every ball, is smashing it cleanly.

Virat Kohli is caught in the deep as he walks off the stadium after a remarkable hundred amidst testing conditions. IND 327/2 (44)

100 partnership comes up between Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer. This has been a standout partnership between in the innings. 100 off just 80 balls.

India have maintained the healthy run-rate of around 7 in the innings. The pitch is definitely a slow surface, however, the Indian batters have used brilliantly in their advantage.

A massive six by Shreyas Iyer and a fortunate boundary is frustrating New Zealand at the moment. FIFTY! For Virat Kohli, another day, another milestone. IND 195/1 (27.2)

Shubman Gill (79) has walked off the field and has been retired hurt. Shreyas Iyer is in the middle now in place of him. IND 165/1 (23)

After the end of 15 overs, both Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill have consolidated well on the start provided by Rohit Sharma. Fans in India would be hoping the partnership swells further.

New Zealand have broke the momentum after scalping Rohit Sharma's wicket. Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill are taking a cautious approach to building a big partnership for the second wicket. Southee bowled tight over by leaking just five runs.

IND 89/1 (11)

 ,

Tim Southee does the trick for New Zealand as the pacer clinches Rohit Sharma (47) in the ninth over. Virat Kohli comes in the middle.

IND 71/0 (8.2)

In a surprise move, Kane Williamson handed the ball to Mitchell Santner in the sixth over, the decision he might regret later. Rohit welcomed the spinner with both arms open and smashed four and six of his first over to accumulate 11 runs.

IND 58/0 (6)

Rohit Sharma is dispatching New Zealander's all over the ground. Southee and Boult are sticking to his short-ball tactic but Rohit is equally matched that. Rohit breaks the record of Chris Gayle for the most sixes in CWC (49).

IND: 46-0 (4.4)

Rohit Sharma gets a couple of boundaries in the first over itself. Trent Boult tried to nip back in with the wicket-to-wicket deliveries, but Rohit had other plans.

IND: 10-0 (1)

"We would have batted first. Looks like a used pitch. We would want to do well with the ball and then hopefully, some dew later. Amazing occasion. Four years ago, similar situation but a different location. They have been playing some good cricket. Always a building phase between the tournaments. Need to assess what is in front of you when the tournament starts. We are going with the same team from the previous match," he said.

"We are gonna bat first. Looks like a good pitch. Looks like on the slower side. Whatever we do, we need to do well. I think it was back in 2019 when we played the semis. NZ is one of the most consistent sides. Very important day. Constantly, talking about how important it is about turning up on that day. It is about controlling the controllables. Same team," Rohit Sharma at the toss.

India have won the toss and opted to bat first against New Zealand at Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

"If you look at the spinners' length, it's bare, the spinners will come into play on this surface. As the game progresses, if there's dew, it'll play nicely. When you look at the center of the surface, there's a little bit of grass. There'll be carry for the fast bowlers from a back of a length. You want to bat first in the semi-final. When it comes to second innings, you just have to negotiate the first 20 overs. If that dew becomes a factor, it becomes a lot easier to bat on," Ravi Shastri and Simon Doull reckon.

This is the first time ever in ODI World Cup when at least two Indian batters have accuumulated 500+ runs in a single edition. Virat Kohli has scored 594 runs, while Rohit Sharma follows closely behind with 503 runs.

Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor will be in attendance for the match. David Beckham is expected to arrive as well.

Only Positives

Both teams receive a good news on the injury front as there are no new reports of injuries from either camp. However, India will be missing Hardik Pandya, and New Zealand will be without the services of Matt Henry.

Virat Kohli is in thundering form in this edition of the tournament. He is eyeing the historic 50th ODI ton to become the first batter to do so. Kohli has matched legendary Sachin Tendulkar's 49 ODI centuries record in the clash against South Africa at Eden Gardens in Kolkata.

He is also the highest run-getter with 594 runs including two centuries and five fifties in nine matches. He is 80 runs short of surpassing Sachin Tendulkar's (673 runs) all-time record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup.

Virat Kohli is the player of big matches and the batter has proved it in his highly illustrious career so far. But he was unable to translate that in the knockout stages of the last three ODI World Cups.

Kohli has the best score of 35 in the six knockout matches he has played in the World Cups. His 35 came against Sri Lanka in the 2011 World Cup final at Wankhede Stadium.

The in-form batter is yet to hit a half-century in the most important clashes of the 50-over pinnacle.

Wankhede Stadium, renowned for its preference for chasing, presents a quandary due to the dew factor and swing under floodlights. Pacers have been dominant in the first ten overs of the second innings, securing 17 wickets at an impressive average of 8.53 in this World Cup.
