India vs Oman, Asia Cup 2025: Indian cricket legend Sunil Gavaskar has urged the Indian team management to consider resting their chief fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah, for the final group-stage clash against Oman and also the crucial Super Four fixture against traditional rival Pakistan on September 21 in the ongoing Asia Cup 2025.

With India already securing a spot in the Super 4s, the match against Oman presents a great opportunity for the team management to just get some wood on leather ahead of a high-stakes encounter against arch-rivals Pakistan on Sunday.

India's head coach Gautam Gambhir is likely to stick with a consistent lineup, with a potential anomaly for giving Bumrah some rest and this approach aligns with managing Bumrah's workload, considering the pacer being a crucial part of India's pace attack.

“I would like to think that India would consider batting first and keep the same opening pair. Maybe number three, Suryakumar Yadav, the skipper, could drop himself down the order, giving Tilak Verma a chance for some time at the crease and allowing Sanju Samson a bit of a hit as well," Gavaskar told broadcasters.

“This would give the batters some practice not just for the game against Pakistan, but also for the upcoming Super 4 matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh. It’s more about preparing the batters than the bowlers," the Indian cricket legend said.

“I believe Jasprit Bumrah should be rested, perhaps even for the Pakistan game, so he’s available for the bigger match on Sunday, the 28th, which is against Sri Lanka. That’s what India should be looking at. Of course, there will still need to be one bench player included, but Bumrah should be left out for tomorrow’s game to give him res,” Gavaskar added.

That will also give the team a chance to check out Arshdeep Singh, who has been missing out due to the think tank's obsession with multi-skilled cricketers and batting depth till No. 8.
