The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India's 15-member squad for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka, with experienced players Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj making their return to the red-ball cricket. The squad also comprises of a maiden Test call-up for all-rounder Saransh Jain, who has been rewarded for his consistent domestic performances.
The series, scheduled to begin on August 15, marks India's next assignment in the longest format and will also provide valuable preparation ahead of a busy international calendar. Before the series gets kickstand, the Indian team will play a four-day practice match in Colombo starting on August 7.
Saransh Jain Receives First Test Call-Up
The biggest talking point from the squad announcement is the inclusion of Saransh Jain, who has received his first-ever call-up to the Indian Test team. The domestic all-rounder has impressed with both bat and ball over the past few seasons, earning recognition from the national selectors.
Jain's selection underlines India's continued emphasis on rewarding performers from the domestic circuit and strengthening their bench strength in the longer format.
Jadeja and Siraj Strengthen India's Squad
India have also brought back seasoned all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja and pace leader Mohammed Siraj. Their return adds significant experience to Shubman Gill's side, with Jadeja expected to play a crucial role on spin-friendly Sri Lankan pitches, while Siraj will lead the pace attack alongside Jasprit Bumrah.
Young batter Sai Sudharsan and fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah have also been named in the squad, while KL Rahul has been appointed vice-captain. Wicketkeeping duties will be shared between Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel.
