New Delhi | Jagran Sports Desk: Indian opening batsman KL Rahul on Friday became the third-fastest batsman alongside Australian opener Aaron Finch to reach 1,000 runs and seventh Indian to reach the landmark during the first T20I against West Indies at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad. KL Rahul reached the above landmark in his 29th innings while appearing in the 32nd T20I. Pakistan batsman Babar Azam is the fastest to reach 1,000 runs in 26 innings while Virat Kohli is the second-fastest (27 innings). England's Kevin Pieterson and Alex Hales also feature in the list reaching the feat in 32 innings each.

KL Rahul scored 62 runs before falling prey to Kharry Pierre in the 14th over. India went on to win the match by six wickets in the 19th over as skipper Virat Kohli scored his highest score unbeaten 94 runs in the opening fixture. Rishabh Pant too contributed 18 runs. For West Indies, Khary Pierre was the pick of the bowlers with two wickets in four overs while Cottrell and Pollard took one wicket each.

Earlier, West Indies won the toss and slammed 207 runs for the loss five in their 20 overs after winning the toss. Shimron Hetmyer was the pick of the bowlers with 56 runs off 41 balls. His maiden half-century included four sixes and two fours. He was well supported by Evin Lewis who scored 40 runs to give a proper start to the visitors while skipper Kieron Pollard and Brandon Kings contributed 37 and 31 runs respectively.

The second or the next T20I is scheduled to take place at Thiruvavanthapuram on December 8 (Sunday)
