India win ICC Women's World Cup 2025 title: India lifted their maiden ICC Women's World Cup title as they defeated South Africa in the final by 52 runs at DY Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai on Sunday. India bowled South Africa for 246 in 45.3 overs.

As the ICC Women's World Cup 2025 emerged as a watershed moment for Indian cricket, Prime Minister Narendra Modi was quick to react and congratulate the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side for their incredible journey throughout the tournament and the spirit they showed despite setbacks and ended up lifting the title.

"A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. The team showed exceptional teamwork and tenacity throughout the tournament. Congratulations to our players. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports," PM wrote on X.

People from all walks of life, including former cricketers, took to social media to hail the memorable effort of the Indian women's cricket team.

"Incredible win by the women in blue! Shafali Verma’s fearless batting and Deepti Verma’s all-round class made all the difference. Champions in every sense of the word," Shikhar Dhawan posted.

"Every World Cup we’ve gone into, there have been so many heartbreaks for all of us. But we always believed that we had a bigger responsibility - not just to win, but to keep growing women’s cricket. And honestly, just look at the support we’ve had over the last month and a half. It’s been incredible. To finally lift the World Cup today - I’ll take those 45 sleepless nights any day for this moment," India's star batter Smriti Mandhana said after the win.

Deepti Sharma was the star performer in the final as she smashed a half-century and also took a match-winning five-wicket haul. Shafali Verma, who just made her return to the side after a while, also came up with an all-round effort, taking two wickets and scoring 87 runs.

The Women in Blue kicked off their campaign with the victories over Sri Lanka and Pakistan. However, they suffered a huge setback with the successive defeats against South Africa, Australia and England. They won the match against New Zealand before the Bangladesh game was washed out.

Having registered a famous win over Australia in the semifinals, they were just a step away from climbing to the top of the world. They outclassed South Africa in their third appearance in the final to get over the line.
