India vs Pakistan, ICC Women's World Cup 2025: Sana Mir returned to her commentary duties during the India vs Pakistan ICC Women's World Cup 2025 match on Sunday despite triggering a controversy recently with her 'Azad Kashmir' remark on air.
India and Pakistan are up against each other in their respective second league match of the ongoing tournament, and as expected, the clash is a high-voltage one, thanks to decades-old on and off-field rivalry.
Mir faced massive backlash for making a political remark while introducing Natalia Pervaiz’s background during Pakistan's match against Bangladesh. Apart from the heavy criticism, the social media users were quick to request the ICC to take action against Mir, precisely to remove her from the commentary panel of the marquee tournament.

Meanwhile, Mir later clarified that her remarks had been blown out of proportion, shoving aside all allegations levelled against her online.
"It is unfortunate how things are being blown out of proportion and people in sports are being subjected to unnecessary pressure. It is sad that this requires an explanation at the public level," Mir tweeted on Thursday night.

"My comment about a Pakistan player’s hometown was only meant to highlight the challenges she faced in coming from a certain region in Pakistan and her incredible journey. It is part of the storytelling we do as commentators, as to where the players come from," Mir tweeted.
Interestingly, Mir was commentating with the former India skipper Anjum Chopra as well, which didn't go down well with the netizens.
On the other hand, the controversy was aligned with the IND vs PAK match in the Women's WC also as there were no handshakes between Harmanpreet Kaur and Fatima Sana at the toss. Pakistan won the toss and opted to field first with an aim to improve the 0-11 head-to-head record between the arch-rivals in India's favour.
