Asia Cup 2025: The ongoing Asia Cup 2025 witnessed an early controversy after India defeated Pakistan by 7 wickets in a group A fixture at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on Sunday.
After the dominating win, Indian players walked off the field, refusing the customary handshakes or any kind of post-match friendly interaction with the Pakistani players. This turned out to be a symbolic protest from the BCCI and the Indian team against the horrific Pahalgam Terror Attack.
While the Indian skipper Suryakumar Yadav dedicated the win to the victims of the Pahalgam attack and the Indian armed forces, the whole act didn't sit well with the Pakistan Cricket Board. The whole controversy escalated into a full-blown diplomatic and political crisis, prompting Pakistan to even threaten a pullout from the tournament.

Adding more to the much-talked-about episode, the Indian cricket team now has come up with a wish not to share the presentation dais with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) president Mohsin Naqvi should they make the Asia Cup final and win the tournament.
The title clash of the continental event is slated to be held on September 28. Being the chief of the Asian Cricket Council, Naqvi is expected to hand over the winner’s trophy, but the Indian team is unlikely to accept the silverware should this be the case.

"It is reliably learnt that if India makes the tournament’s final on September 28, the players won’t be sharing the presentation dais with Naqvi, who is expected to hand over the winner’s trophy as ACC head," a report in the PTI was quoted as saying.
Notably, Naqvi is also the chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).
Pakistan's threat to pull out
Expressing their displeasure with the actions of the Indian team, the PCB filed a complaint to the ICC over the actions of match referee Andy Pycroft for allegedly telling the two captains not to shake hands during the toss.
PCB wanted Pycroft to be removed from the rest of the tournament, but the ICC came up with an alternate, but at the same time turned down PCB's allegations. "The PCB has lodged a complaint with the ICC regarding violations by the Match Referee of the ICC Code of Conduct and the MCC Laws pertaining to the Spirit of Cricket. The PCB has demanded an immediate removal of the Match Referee from the Asia Cup," Naqvi said in a social media post on Monday.
Pakistan even came up with a threat to boycott their last group A match against the UAE, which is scheduled to be played on Wednesday.
