Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma proved why they have been incredible players for India in the ODI format for more than a decade now. The senior batters came up with major impact as India won the three-match ODI series against South Africa 2-1 on Saturday.

Virat produced a fiery performance as India outclassed the Proteas by 9 wickets in the third ODI at the ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. He finished the series in style and played a remarkable knock of unbeaten 65 runs in 45 balls on the back of six fours and three sixes. Virat was adjudged as the Player of the Series for scoring 302 runs in three matches at an average of 151 on the back of two centuries and a fifty.

Rohit also continued his outstanding form in the format and scored 146 runs, hitting two fifties. Notably, both Virat and Rohit remain just ODI cricketers, having retired from the Test and T20I formats. With impressive performances, Kohli and Rohit finished their set of international fixtures for the year 2025.

Kohli and Rohit will be away from international cricket for nearly six months after the New Zealand series. However, the duo will likely be seen in action during the Vijay Hazare Trophy for their respective domestic teams. Both players reportedly confirmed their availability for the Vijay Hazare Trophy, which is scheduled to start from December 24.

With both Virat and Rohit aiming to continue till the 2027 ODI World Cup, they need to feature in domestic cricket in order to get enough game time. Kohli and Rohit returned to competitive action in October in the tour of Australia, and have since featured in six ODI matches. Virat has been the leading run-getter for India during this period with 376 runs at a strike rate of 107.12, whereas Rohit stands second with 348 runs on the back of two fifties. No other teammate has managed to even breach the 200-run mark.
