England vs India Test Series: India defeated England by just 6 runs in the fifth and final Test at the Kennington Oval in London on Monday. The result came out on the thrilling final day as India produced a heroic bowling effort.

England headed into the decisive day just 35 runs short with four wickets in hand, but were bowled out for just 367 runs while chasing the 374-run target. Mohammed Siraj stepped up and landed the final blow, also taking a match-winning five-for. He took a total of nine wickets in the match. The five-match Test series ended in a 2-2 draw as both teams shared the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy.

England won the Headingley and Lord's Tests to take a 2-1 lead before India produced an outstanding performance to take out a draw in the 4th Test at Manchester to remain alive in the series. It all came down to the final Test for India, and they held their nerves to register an incredible comeback win.

Several players stepped up for India, with the skipper Shubman Gill leading from the front. He came up with a consistent effort with the bat throughout the series and ended up being the top run-getter.

Let's take a look at how Indian players performed in five-match Test series against England

Mohammed Siraj: Siraj was the only bowler to play all five matches and remained incredibly consistent. He was the leading wicket-taker with 23 scalps to his name, having bowled the most number of overs as well.

Shubman Gill: Gill led from the front and smashed a plethora of batting records during his first assignment as India's Test skipper. He was adjudged as the Player of the Series for being the top run-getter with 754 runs to his name on the back of four centuries. His best score was 269.

Ravindra Jadeja: Jadeja had the best performance of his career with the bat on this England tour. He also smashed multiple records and delivered in every kind of need. He scored 516 runs at an average of 86, hitting five fifties and a century. Jadeja took seven wickets as well.

Rishabh Pant: India's star wicketkeeper-batter played seven innings, scoring 479 runs with a highest score of 134, contributing to his batting average of 68.42. He recorded two centuries and three half-centuries. He was one of India's top performers in the series, but an unfortunate foot injury ruled him out of the decisive final Test.

KL Rahul: KL Rahul has been consistently performing for India at the top of the order in Test cricket lately. He also showed remarkable consistency and was India's second top run-getter with 532 runs in five games at an average of 53.20 with the help of two centuries and as many fifties. The senior batter took a few crucial catches in the slip cordon as well.

Washington Sundar: Sundar capitalised on the opportunities he got in the ongoing series and produced an impactful all-round performance. He scored 284 runs in 8 innings at an average of 47.33 and took 7 wickets in the series.

Jasprit Bumrah: Bumrah headed into the test series against England as India's most important player, but got to play just three games due to workload management.

Yashasvi Jaiswal: Jaiswal started the series on a remarkable note with a century in the Headingley Test. However, his performance remained a bit inconsistent in the middle, and a few of his dismissals came under the huge scanner. The star opener stepped up on the big stage and ended the series with another crucial hundred in the final Test. He scored 411 runs in 10 innings at an average of 41.10, hitting two centuries and a couple of half-centuries as well.

Karun Nair: Karun was so fortunate to make his comeback in Test cricket after a long while on the back of consistent performances in domestic cricket over the years. He had a disappointing outing in England despite having promising starts in a few of the innings. He scored 205 runs in four games at an average of 25.62 and managed to score just one fifty. However, his catching at the slip cordon was highly admired.

Akash Deep: Akash Deep stepped up with 10 wickets to help India win the Edgbaston Test. He performed in crucial moments at times and was impressive in his maiden England tour, having taken 13 wickets in three games. The star pacer scored an all-important fifty in the final Test as nightwatchman to give India an upper hand after the first innings.

Dhruv Jurel: Jurel played his part in the thrilling series. While he couldn't offer much with the bat and got one chance to feature, the youngster made contributions by taking the role behind the stumps. He took crucial catches and saved many runs as a replacement for Pant and in the final Test as well.

Sai Sudharsan: Sudharsan showed a lot of promise but might not be very happy with his performance. He scored 140 runs at an average of 23.33, with a best of 61. Like with others, there were flashes of a really good cricketer who can solve India’s number three issue in the near future.

Shardul Thakur: Shardul Thakur had a disappointing outing in England. With the ball, he took two wickets in two innings at 72, but just didn't do enough to win the trust of the skipper. However, he played a crucial knock of 41 runs during the Manchester Test.

Nitish Kumar Reddy: Nitish had a promising performance during the England tour, but an injury ruled him out of the last two games. Reddy scored 45 runs with a best of 30, averaging 11.25 with the bat, and picked up three wickets in three innings at 37. His double wicket at Lord’s deserves a grace point.

Anshul Kamboj: Kamboj got to make his debut in the challenging Manchester Test and had a disappointing outing. He played one match, bowled in one inning, taking one wicket for 89 runs.
