IND-W vs SA-W Women's World Cup 2025 Final: The Women in Blue had scripted history in the 2025 Women's World Cup as they had won their maiden title and had created a new benchmark for women's sport broadcasting in the country. The host had won their first ICC title last week after beating South Africa by 52 runs in Navi Mumbai. The summit clash witnessed 185 million viewership on JioHotstar and has leveled the men's 2024 T20 World Cup summit clash and has also broken the record of IPL.

This historic win is a huge moment for the sport. The mega event saw a record 446 million viewers, where the final saw 21 million concurrent and 92 million CTV viewers, and had leveled the men's World Cup final. Winning in their own backyard, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led side had become the first Asian team to win the title and began a new era in women's cricket.

Ishan Chatterjee, who is the CEo of sports Jiostar, said, “The ICC Women’s Cricket World Cup 2025 has reaffirmed the growing stature of women’s cricket in India. The exceptional quality of play, particularly the Indian team’s outstanding performance, has driven record-breaking viewership and attracted a larger, more passionate fan base than ever before.”

“This marks a significant shift for women’s cricket — it is no longer just being watched, but truly celebrated by millions. It is inspiring a new generation of fans, athletes, and brands to support the sport. This success is a collective achievement of the ICC and BCCI for their vision, the players for their performances, the fans for their unwavering support, and the brands that have championed women’s cricket,” he added.

INDIA RECOVER FROM JITTERS

Their path to their first World Cup was full of redemption. Post a shaky start, where they had lost three consecutive matches, they were able to bounce back when it mattered the most. They had registered a record-breaking chase of 339 runs against Australia, which was the most in this format on the back of Jemimah Rodrigues' knock of 127, along with Harmanpreet Kaur's gritty 89.

In the final against South Africa, the host had posted a target of 298/7, which was the second-highest in a women's World Cup final, where Shafali Verma's (87) and Deepti Sharma's (58 and 5/39) had played a huge role. Deepti Sharma had become the first women's cricketer to score more than 200 runs and take more than 20 wickets in a single edition. This 52-run win helped India become the first Asian team to win the trophy.

Jemimah’s game has improved after WPL : Former India Cricketer Reema Malhotra

Speaking on ‘The Great Indian Cricket Show’ on Doordarshan, former India cricketer and commentator Reema Malhotra highlighted how the mindset and skills of India’s women players have evolved significantly.

Malhotra said, “Look at Jemimah Rodrigues. Because of the arrival of the WPL, she has improved her game, improvised her shots. Before this, she played with a certain template. But now you know that if you want to stay in the playing XI of Meg Lanning, then you have to take a step forward. That’s where we saw Jemimah 2.0.”

She also praised opener Smriti Mandhana, speaking about her positive attitude, “Smriti is a very positive person. In the WPL, when she became captain in the inaugural season, she had gone to play in the Big Bash League. She was struggling to recognize Indian talent because she was not playing domestic matches. A big player never repeats a mistake. In the second WPL, she missed Big Bash and started playing domestic matches. She recognized the talent of the players and also won the trophy.”
