26-year-old Aman Hakim Khan would have been warming the bench in Delhi Capitals’ dressing room, had Mitchell Marsh not fallen sick on the eve of the game against Gujarat Titans. Young DC batter put forward a resilient inning of 51 off 44 balls with the help of three 4s and an equal number of maximums on the challenging surface of Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. A slow-paced but calm and crucial inning helped Delhi to propel to a challenging total of 130, after once losing five wickets only for 23. This stellar effort by Aman proved to be the match-winning point in the match for Delhi Capitals.
This resilience is also visible in the character and journey of the young Aman which he has derived from his 52-year-old father, Hakim Khan. Hakim Khan, who was a noted fast bowler in his tranquil Mumbai cricket days, did everything to make his son where he’s today. He sent his son to the iconic Shivaji Park Gymkhana club of Dadar where Aman Khan trained under veteran coach Pravin Amre.
Aman is known for his power-hitting since his days in local cricket. He once smashed 14 sixes in a game while representing DY Patil Club. While speaking well of his son, his father reminded that Aman had done well in the Mumbai T20 League in 2019.
Aman was traded from Kolkata Knight Riders to Delhi Capitals before the start of this season. He found belongingness and warmth in the environment of Capitals as he got his anchorage under his childhood coach Pravin Amre. "He has always given me confidence and backed my strengths, never asked me to change my style, even when I was a kid. He always tried to improve my game rather than expecting me to change it. With him being around, I feel confident. He knows where I am going wrong”, Aman mentioned of his coach while talking to the media.
However, his stout-hearted effort against Gujarat came after learnings from his previous failure in a game against Sunrisers Hyderabad where he failed to rescue his team from a similar situation and gave away his wicket cheaply. But, he grabbed the opportunity from both his hands against Gujarat Titans without disappointing his team and himself.
