The latest edition of IPL is still a month away but four-time champions Chennai Super Kings has already suffered a body blow to their chances. Struggling with a back injury, lanky seamer Kyle Jamieson will most likely miss IPL, 2023.
The CSK had specifically acquired his services for a princely amount of INR 1 crore in a bid to shore up their bowling reserves. With Jamieson ruled out, MS Dhoni-led side is now left with only two overseas pace bowling alternatives in South African Dwaine Pretorious and Sri Lanka's Matheesha Pathirana.
Here are top 3 candidates who can replace all-rounder Kyle Jamieson in the CSK Squad for the upcoming season:
1. Dasun Shanaka: Sri Lankan captain can be a perfect replacement, considering his ability to strike a long ball as well as bowling a few overs, makes him a class apart from all the other options. He is going through a purple patch with his batting as he was almost unstoppable against India in the recently concluded series.
2. Daryl Mitchell: The New Zealand all-rounder brings a lot of firepower in the T20 format . His presence will only add to CSK's rich legacy of trusting old warhorses.
3. Tom Curran: A handy batter down the order, Tom Curran is a tough player to keep out of the playing eleven of any T20 side. If there is some assistance in the pitch for pace bowlers, Tom has the ability to rattle the opposition batters.
With the Chennai franchise wary of a repeat of last season where they finished second-last, it will be interesting to see who makes the cut as Jamieson's replacement.
