In the contest between bat and ball - hyped by the fours and sixes - there were some breathtaking bowling spells from pacers to spinners in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023 which broke the back of batters and turned the game in their favor.
Here are the top five bowling figures of IPL 2023:
No.5: Mohammed Shami (Gujarat Titans) 4/11
Gujarat Titans (GT) pace bowler Mohammed Shami stands fifth in this list for his remarkable bowling performance against Delhi Capitals (DC) earlier in the tournament. Shami single-handedly thrashed the DC top-order with his impressive accuracy of bowling early in the innings.
He got rid of opener Phil Salt followed by the wickets of Rilee Rossouw, Manish Pandey, and Priyam Garg to ruin the powerplay of DC. He finished with the stunning bowling figures of 4/11 in his quota of four overs.
No.4: Bhuvneshwar Kumar (Sunrisers Hyderabad) 5/30
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) star bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar put up a show with the ball against Gujarat Titans (GT) as he became the second bowler to take a five-wicket haul this IPL season. He dismissed Wriddhiman Saha in the very first over and followed his brilliance by getting rid of skipper Hardik Pandya in the 16th over.
In the final over of the innings, Bhuvi dismissed Shubman Gill, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Shami to achieve the feat. His 5/30 is in fourth place on the list of best bowling figures in IPL 2023.
No.3: Mark Wood (Lucknow Super Giants) 5/14
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) pace star Mark Wood looked unplayable earlier in the tournament as he ripped the Delhi Capitals (DC) batting lineup apart early in the tournament. He became the first player to take a five-wicket haul this season as he removed Prithvi Shaw, Mitchell Marsh, and Sarfaraz Khan in quick succession.
Wood then added two more wickets to his tally, dismissing Axar Patel and Chetan Sakariya to achieve the feat. He finished the game with remarkable bowling figures of 5/14 in his four overs as he takes the third spot in this list.
No.2: Mohit Sharma (Gujarat Titans) 5/10
The comeback king of IPL Mohit Sharma displayed an exceptional bowling performance against Mumbai Indians (MI) in the all-important clash of Qualifier 2. He took just 2.2 overs for his magnificent five-wicket haul dismissing dangerous-looking Suryakumar Yadav followed by Vishnu Vinod's wicket.
He then put the final nail in the coffin by getting rid of MI tail, dismissing Chris Jordan, Piyush Chawla, and Kumar Kartikeya. Mohit finished with tremendous bowling figures of 5/10 as he stands second in this elite list.
No.1: Akash Madhwal (Mumbai Indians)
Mumbai Indians' (MI) pace bowler Akash Madhwal surprised everyone by thrashing Luckow Super Giants (LSG) batting order for his first-ever five-wicket haul in the IPL cricket. He was very economical at the same time and gave away just five runs in the match.
He quickly removed the opener Prerak Mankad for just three runs followed by the crucial dismissal of Ayush Badoni and Nicholas Pooran. He then gave a knockout punch towards the end by getting rid of Ravi Bishnoi and Mohsin Khan and finished with the exceptional figures of 5/5 in just 3.2 which is the best of this IPL season so far.
