OPENER Shubman Gill was at his absolute best as he scored his maiden IPL hundred in a comprehensive 34-run victory for Gujarat Titans over SunRisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi stadium on Monday. Courtesy of this win, Titans became the first team in this edition to qualify for the playoffs.

Basking in the glory of his hundred, Gill recieved praises from across the cricketing spectrum. However, a dedicated story from talismanic batter Virat Kohli stood out among the rest. Check out the story here:

It is not very often that Kohli praises a performance like that with the choicest of words.

Batting first, Shubman Gill sizzled with his maiden IPL ton (101 off 58), hitting 13 fours and a six and was ably supported by Sai Sudharsan 47(36) to help Gujarat Titans put on a competitive 188/9 after a lion-hearted Bhuvneshwar had picked up his second IPL fifer (5/31).

Mohd. Shami (4/21) then ripped through the SRH top order and Mohit Sharma (4/24) scythed through the middle-order as the away team overcame a fighting effort from Heinrich Klaasen (64 off 44) to restrict SRH to 154/9 and qualify for the play-offs on Monday night.

Defending champions Gujarat Titans still have a game to go, but with nine wins in 13 matches, they have already confirmed their spot in the top two.

JioCinema TATA IPL expert Brett Lee praised the Titans’ commitment, saying: “I think they have been really well led by Hardik Pandya. Didn’t get the chance to bowl, I am hearing workload reason as the reason why he’s not bowling, which is disappointing. But the fact they keep winning without one of their strike bowlers, it’s good for them. Every player is stepping up and doing their own thing and contributing to the team’s success, which is great for them.”
