Delhi Capitals bounced back with a commanding 20-run victory over Rajasthan Royals, rejuvenating their slim hopes of securing a spot in the IPL playoffs. Opting to bat first, Delhi posted a formidable total of 221/8, powered by Tristan Stubbs' explosive 41 off just 20 deliveries.
In response, Rajasthan Royals could only manage 201 for 8 in their allotted overs, falling short of the target. Kuldeep Yadav emerged as the standout bowler for Delhi, claiming 2 crucial wickets while conceding just 25 runs. Khaleel Ahmed and Mukesh Kumar also contributed with two wickets each.
With this victory, Delhi Capitals have joined Chennai Super Kings, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants with 12 points each, intensifying the mid-table competition for the playoffs.
Rajasthan's chase was spearheaded by skipper Sanju Samson, who notched up his fifth half-century of the season. Samson's blistering 86 off 46 balls injected momentum into Rajasthan's innings but was eventually dismissed in controversial circumstances, caught by Shai Hope at the long-on boundary.
Kuldeep Yadav's pivotal double strike in his final over further dashed Rajasthan's hopes, sealing Delhi's crucial win.
Earlier, Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abhishek Porel provided Delhi with a solid foundation, stitching together a rapid 60-run partnership in just 26 balls. However, Ravichandran Ashwin's spell of 3/24 triggered a collapse in Rajasthan's batting lineup, thwarting their chase.
Brief Scores:
Delhi Capitals: 221 for 8 in 20 overs (Jake Fraser-McGurk 50, Abhishek Porel 65; Ravichandran Aswhin 3/24).
Rajasthan Royals: 201 for 8 in 20 overs (Sanju Samson 86; Kuldeep Yadav 2/25, Khaleel Ahmed 2/47, Mukesh Kumar 2/30).
