Former Mumbai Indians pacer Jofra Archer will not be part of the 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) as the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) aims to manage his workload in preparation for the T20 World Cup next year. Archer has been sidelined from professional cricket since May 2023 due to a recurring elbow stress fracture sustained while playing for Mumbai Indians in the IPL. Despite briefly being part of the World Cup in India as a reserve, he continued to experience elbow pain during training in Mumbai and spent less than a week in the country.

Notably, Archer is not listed among the 1000+ players, including 34 England players, who have registered for the IPL auction scheduled to take place in Dubai on December 19. This decision aligns with the ECB's effort to prioritize Archer's fitness and ensure he is fully prepared for international commitments, including the T20 World Cup.

As per a report in ESPNcricinfo, 'Jofra recently signed a two-year England central contract running from October 2023 to September 2025, and the ECB have categorically told Archer not to enter the auction."

Earlier this year, Jofra Archer left India a week into the Indian Premier League (IPL) to consult with an elbow specialist in Belgium. Following a minor operation due to pain experienced on his debut for Mumbai Indians, Archer returned to play four more games before returning home. The England medical staff diagnosed him with a recurrence of a stress fracture.

At that time, Ashley Giles, England's managing director, mentioned that the team would scrutinize every aspect of Archer's rehabilitation. A detailed recovery program had been outlined in collaboration with the Mumbai Indians' medical staff, which included appearances for MI Cape Town in the SA20. However, as Archer attempts another comeback, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has decided to take maximum control over his recovery process.

"We take that bet with him that we want him back fit and able to play for England, because of the upside," Key said last month. "You start looking at things like the Ashes in two years, the T20 World Cup… Jofra adds so much to that," Key stated.
