IPL 2024 Final: Sunrisers Hyderabad finished as runners-up in the IPL 2024 as they suffered a defeat in the final against Kolkata Knight Riders who ended up lifting their third title.
SRH were the most talked about side in this year's tournament considering the aggressive style they approached while hunting for success, an achievement which was also acknowledged by franchise owner Kavya Maran.
The Hyderabad-based franchise made it to their third IPL final, their first appearance in the summit clash since 2018 but couldn't end their trophy drought which they last won in 2016.

After the disappointing defeat, Kavya visited the SRH dressing room and came up with encouraging words for the players also thanking them for their spirited effort throughout the tournament.

“You guys really, you have made us so proud. I had to come here and tell you that. I mean you’ve really re-defined the way we play T20 cricket and everyone is talking about us,” said Maran in the dressing room.
“The off day had to happen today but really, all of… you great job with the bat and the ball. Thank you so much. Even though we finished last place last season, I thank all the fans who came out in huge numbers because of the potential you guys had.”
SRH unleashed the attacking brand of cricket after major changes took place in their setup including the appointing of Pat Cummins as their new captain.
They made and broke several records including the highest-ever total in the IPL history during their league match against RCB when they scored 287/3 in their 20 overs.
The team totals of 277/3 against Mumbai Indians and 266/7 against Delhi Capitals were also two of their notable performances with the bat.
However, the final witnessed the worst possible performance from them as they registered an unwanted record of lowest-ever team total in an IPL final.
“Everyone’s talking about us. Even though KKR’s won, everyone’s going to be talking about the style of cricket we played. Thank you guys, take care. Don’t look like this (laughter). We played the finals. It wasn’t just any other game. I mean all the other teams are watching us tonight. So thank you so much. I’ll see you soon,” she added.
After opting to bat first, SRH were bowled out for just 113 runs in 18.3 overs before allowing SRH to chase it down in just 10.3 overs.
After SRH's defeat, owner Kavya Maran was seen in tears and she tried to hide her emotions, having cheered for her side from the stands throughout the season.
Notably, SRH had finished in the eighth, eighth and tenth position (bottom) respectively in the last three seasons but a massive turnaround this season ended up scripting one of the memorable IPL stories.
