IPL 2024: Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings suffered a setback this season as they failed to qualify for the playoffs. However, what has kept the CSK fans on tenterhooks is whether Mahendra Singh Dhoni will announce his retirement or not. Rumours are rife that MSD is mulling to retire after this season. Shedding light on Dhoni's future, CSK CEO Kasi Vishwanathan revealed that they would be waiting for MS Dhoni’s decision regarding his future. He also said that the team, just like the fans, is hopeful that Dhoni will play one more season.

The former Indian skipper was heartbroken after the Ruturaj Gaikwad-led side lost to RCB in their virtual knockout last week. Dhoni didn’t reveal anything about his future despite speculations of him playing his last season. Although he did reveal last year that he would be playing for at least another year and that would be like a return gift to the CSK fans, who have supported him through thick and thin.

"(What is his future). I do not know. It's a question that only MS can answer. See, the question for us is, we've always respected the decisions taken by MS. We have left it to him. And as all of you know, he has always taken his decisions and announced them at the appropriate time," Kasi Vishwanathan said.

"We do expect that we will get a decision as and when he decides. But we are very, very hopeful that he will be available for CSK next year. That is the view and the expectations of fans and me. That's the case," he added.

Dhoni left the field without shaking hands with the RCB players after CSK’s campaign ended in Bengaluru last week. He came back to his hometown Ranchi on the very next day and videos of him riding a bike also went viral. Former Indian cricketers like Ambati Rayudu, Suresh Raina, and Robin Uthappa are hoping that MS Dhoni will play for another season.

But everything will depend on his fitness as the former Indian skipper doesn’t play cricket throughout the year. He also underwent surgery due to a knee injury last year and recovered well in time to play this season. Dhoni was also suffering from a muscle injury this season and that affected his batting as well. Dhoni scored 161 runs in IPL 2024 at a strike rate of 220.
