IPL 2024: On the last day of the trading window, Mumbai Indians (MI) created ripples in the cricketing community by trading Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans for a record fee. The decision triggered speculations about Rohit Sharma possibly exploring other options in the league when the trade window reopens on December 20.

However, in a recent update, a Mumbai Indians official clarified that the strategic move involving Hardik Pandya was a collective decision that considered the input of all stakeholders. The official dismissed swirling rumours about Rohit Sharma contemplating a transfer to another club, labelling them as false.

"Rohit is not going anywhere, nor will any player," Cricbuzz quoted MI official as saying ahead of IPL Auction 2024.

"The news reports are totally fake and false. No MI player will be leaving us, nor will be traded by us," the official added.

The doubts arose when indications of dissatisfaction emerged within the MI squad, implicating key senior players like Jasprit Bumrah and Suryakumar Yadav.

Following Hardik's transfer to MI, Bumrah posted on his Instagram story, "Silence is sometimes the best answer." Suryakumar, too, conveyed his sentiments through a cryptic post that quickly gained traction, featuring a heartbreak emoji on social media.

"Every player was taken into confidence before the decision was made. Rohit too was informed, and he is very much part of the decision-making process," the official added.

As per IPL regulations, the trade window will remain open until 30 days before the commencement of the league at around March-end. According to reports, Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals are actively pursuing Mumbai Indians players, with Rohit being a target.

"We would have given anything for Rohit, but we are no longer in the race," Cricbuzz stated an official from the franchise.

Rohit had captained Mumbai Indians since 2023, securing five titles for the franchise. However, the team's performance has been lacklustre in the past two years, finishing at the bottom in 2022 and making the playoffs last year.
