IPL 2024: Lucknow Super Giants have made a massive appointment in their side ahead of the IPL 2024 as they included West Indies pacer Shamar Joseph as a replacement for Mark Wood for the upcoming season.
Joseph will be joining Super Giants for a promising price of INR 3 Crore as he continues to gain big after his heroics for West Indies in the Test series against Australia.
Joseph became an overnight hero as he helped his team register their first-ever test win on Australian soil after 27 years.
He picked seven wickets in the second innings to script his name in history books as West Indies defeated Australia in a thrilling second Test at Gabba.
Notably, this will be the first stint for Joseph in the world's most popular T20 league.
Joseph's fortunes changed for good after his performance in Australia as he went on to sign a PSL deal with Peshawar Zalmi but was ruled out of the International League T20 due to an injury.
The toe injury that he suffered in the Gabba Test itself kept him out of the white-ball series against Australia.
It is to be noted that Super Giants had signed Wood IPL 2022 mega auction for INR 7.50 crore but the England pacer missed that season because of an elbow injury.
In IPL 2023, Wood played four matches and picked up 11 wickets at an average of 11.82.
Joseph has just two professional T20 games under his belt with no wickets to his name yet.
However, West Indies white-ball coach Daren Sammy recently indicated that the young pacer could find a place in the T20 World Cup squad, saying the fast bowler has "created a good headache" for the selectors.
Apart from Joseph, the Super Giants' fast-bowling line-up includes Naveen-ul-Haq, Mohsin Khan, David Willey, Shivam Mavi, Yash Thakur, and Yudhvir Singh.
They also have all-rounders like Marcus Stoinis, Kyle Mayers, and India's Under-19 World Cup player Arshin Kulkarni, who all could contribute with the ball as well.
LSG have been part of the IPL for just two seasons, having made the tournament debut in 2022 but they have shown promising improvements as they made it to the playoffs in 2022 and finised third last year.
