Sunrisers Hyderabad has appointed World Cup-winning Australia pacer Pat Cummins as their captain ahead of the Indian Premier League (IPL) upcoming season. Cummins will replace South Africa's Aiden Markram as the skipper of the side after the bottom-place finish in the last season.
Cummins has been on a roll in the leadership stint with Australia, having won two major ICC titles in 2023 - the World Test Championship (WTC) and the ODI World Cup.
"Our new skipper Pat Cummins," the Hyderabad-based franchise said on Monday.

In the IPL 2024 auction in December last year, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired the services of the Australian captain for a whopping sum of Rs 20.50 crore, the first-ever player in the tournament to breach the 20-crore figure. Cummins withdrew from the last season of the IPL owing to his international commitments for the national side.

Cummins has only featured in 42 IPL matches and scalped 45 wickets at an average of 30.16, most of them came for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) from 2020 to 2022.
The pacer made his debut in the 2014 edition of the IPL with Delhi Daredevils (now Delhi Capitals) and only played one match in the season. In the next season too, he only featured in three matches. He skipped the IPL 2016 edition before returning to Delhi in the 2017 season. He played 12 matches and picked 15 wickets in the season, his best in the tournament so far.

SRH will take on KKR in their opening IPL 2024 fixture at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on March 23.
