As per the former official broadcaster of the IPL (Star Sports), Hardik Pandya's departure from Gujarat Titans to Mumbai Indians is almost a certainity now.

KL Rahul is likely to be retained by Lucknow Super Giants ahead of the auction if their recent social media post is considered.

"I am not sure what happened there but it looks like he is heading back to Mumbai. I think it's going to cost them a bit. I mean Rohit is the captain, we know he loves leading from the front. Will he step down and let Hardik lead, because he has got the big weight of Team India and captaining there," AB de Villiers said.

England and Rajasthan Royals batter Joe Root has pulled out of the IPL 2024 ahead of the auction.

He was bought by the franchise at the base price of INR I Crore in the 2023 auction but managed to play just three matches.

Root was one of the few players likely to be released in the pre-auction trade window.

Delhi Capitals have decided to retain star opener Prithvi Shaw ahead of the IPL 2024 auction. Shaw, who scored 106 runs in eight matches is currently recovering from his knee injury.

In the IPL Auction 2023, Delhi acquired the services of Prithvi Shaw for Rs 8.00 Cr.

The final date of the pre-auction trade window for the IPL 2024 is expected to witness some remarkable and surprising exchanges ahead between the franchises.

In a pre-auction swap deal, Sunrisers Hyderabad have traded Mayank Dagar to RCB for Shahbaz Ahmed.  

Hyderabad bought Dagar for Rs 1.8 crore last year and played just three matches last season without making any promising contributions.

Shahbaz, a 28-year-old all-rounder from Bengal was secured by RCB in the 2022 auction for Rs 2.4 crore.

In an IPL career spanning 39 games, Shahbaz played 10 matches for RCB last season without much success.

In another surprising move, Gautam Gambhir made his return to his former team Kolkata Knight Riders ahead of the IPL 2024. Gambhir, who was associated with Lucknow Super Giants as a mentor, will join KKR in the same profile.

Notably, Gambhir led KKR to two IPL titles in 2012 and 2014.

"A rumour is doing the rounds that Hardik is moving towards Mumbai. It has been heard, no confirmation has come. If he is leaving, firstly Gujarat are releasing him - won once and reached the final once. If he is leaving, will he be made Mumbai's captain? Why would you go if you are not being made the captain," Chopra said.

"I have not heard the end or the start of this story properly. So I am waiting and watching that what happens there because it seems like something will happen. There is no smoke without fire and there is smoke for sure that Hardik is going. However, will Rohit Sharma go to GT? Is that a possibility - I don't know," he added.

Ben Stokes had already opted out of IPL 2024 eyeing the England team's upcoming challenges. Stokes was bought by CSK for INR 16.25 but was proved to be a disappointing signing as the star all-rounder managed to feature in a few matches, having gone through a knee issue.

With Stokes to miss the action this year, CSK have the option to release him and utilise the money gently to buy a replacement.

1) Teams can swap players and agree on cash deals during the window.

2) The IPL governing council has the authority to approve or reject trades.

3) Player consent is a must prior to a related cash deal or swap.

4) Icon or Marquee players are not eligible for the trade process.

In a possible sensational trade move, India's star all-rounder Hardik Pandya is very close to leaving Gujarat Titans and joining Mumbai Indians ahead of the IPL 2024. Notably, Pandya is the captain of Titans and led them to the IPL title in 2022 and a final in the 2023 season.
