Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru, IPL 2025: Bhuvneshwar Kumar scripted his name in the history books as he went past an all-time record during the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers Bengaluru match in the IPL 2025 match at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
Bhuvneshwar became the most successful pacer in IPL history as he went past Dwayne Bravo's tally of 183 wickets in the cash-rich league. The senior Indian cricketer Bhuvneshwar now has the most IPL wickets as a pace bowler in the history of the tournament.
Bhuvneshwar has taken 184 wickets in 180 IPL matches as he continues to shine in his already long and stellar career. He took MI's Tilak Varma's wicket on Monday to achieve the incredible milestone.
Most wickets in IPL history (only pacers)
Bhuvneshwar Kumar (IND): 184 wickets in 180 matches
Dwayne Bravo (WI): 183 wickets in 161 matches
Lasith Malinga (SL): 170 wickets in 122 matches
Jasprit Bumrah (IND): 165 wickets in 134 matches
Umesh Yadav (IND): 144 wickets in 148 matches
Sandeep Sharma (IND): 141 wickets in 131 matches.
The 35-year-old Bhuvneshwar has been one of the most consistent and skillful bowlers in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL). While Bhuvneshwar is known for his swing, he also has excellent variations, such as the slower ball and yorker, which he executes with great precision. His ability to mix up his deliveries, especially during the death overs, has made him a reliable bowler in all phases of the game.
The veteran pacer played a key role in RCB's thrilling 12-run victory over Mumbai Indians. He gave away 48 runs in his four overs and took a wicket as well. He was smashed for 13 runs in his last over (18th over of MI's run chase) but took the crucial wicket of Tilak, who played a fighting knock of 56 runs and was well set to finish it for the hosts.
Tilak had stitched a fiery partnership of 89 runs for the fifth wicket.
Having made his IPL debut during the 2011 season against Punjab Kings, Bhuvneshwar represented Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad, before joining RCB ahead of the IPL 2025.
