IPL 2025: Star India pacer Jasprit Bumrah's comeback to competitive cricket may take a while. It should be noted here that he hasn't been able to bowl at full tilt yet at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence. His fellow teammate and fast bowler Akash Deep's comeback also has been delayed by seven days.
According to the Times of India, although Bumrah is clinically fit due to his workload getting increased, there are high chance that he might sustain a stress fracture on his back. Aakash Deep too is recovering from a back injury. Both the fast bowlers haven't featured in any competitive cricket yet after the Border-Gavaskar Trophy series against Australia. On one hand, Bumrah sustained a lower-back injury in the fifth and last Test match in Sydney, whereas Akash Deep couldn't make it to the playing XI as he felt some 'discomfort' on his back.
The medical team of the BCCI chose to work very carefully with Bumrah since the Men in Blue would be playing a five-match Test series against England post the IPL. Although, neither the selectors nor the team management won't be dependent on Bumrah to play the Test series.
“Bumrah's injury is a bit more serious. The medical team wants to ensure he doesn't suffer a stress fracture. Bumrah himself is being careful. He is bowling at the CoE but it could take longer to get back in full swing. No definite timeline has been set yet, but one hopes he gets back by mid-April. Akash Deep too hopes to get back by April 10” a BCCI source was quoted as saying to PTI.
Bumrah was supposed to join the Mumbai-based franchise by 1st April.
At the same time, LSG star fast bowler Mayank Yadav's recovery is also on the same pace as that of Akash Deep and Bumrah. According to the latest standard operating procedure, CoE's bowling coach would be giving them the final clearance. Although, it will be the medical team, which will declare if a player is fit enough to go through all the high-performance sports the bowling coach should declare if he is fit enough to leave the CoE.
