Before the upcoming season, LSG declared Rishabh Pant as their skipper. The Lucknow-based franchise bought the star wicket-keeper batter for a whopping amount of Rs 27 crore during the mega auction last year and he thus became the most expensive player in the history of the tournament.

“So very simple and that is about announcing the captain of LSG for the future and that is Rishabh Pant. We have decided on that the moment we won him at the auction. But we were waiting for a moment to announce it together," Sanjiv Goenka, who is the owner of the franchise said.

“Rishabh Pant will not only be the most valuable player of IPL but the best player," he revealed.

Ever since he made his IPL debut in 2016, he has scored 3284 runs after playing in 111 matches at a staggering average of 35.31 and a brilliant strike rate of 148.93. He had smashed one hundred and 18 half-centuries under his kitty.

“I will give my 200%. That’s my commitment to you. I will try whatever is there in my power to repay the faith. I am really excited and looking forward to the new beginning and new energy. And have a blast out there with a lot of fun," Pant told reporters during the press conference when he was made the LSG skipper.

He is the franchise's fourth captain as players like KL Rahul, Nicholas Pooran, and Krunal Pandya have led this team from the front in the past. It would be the second time that Pant would be leading an IPL team as he had earlier led Delhi Capitals from 2021 to 2024.

Under Pant and head coach Justin Langer's guidance, the Lucknow-based franchise will try to lift their maiden title as they had earlier qualified for the playoffs during the 2022 and 2023 seasons.

The Rishabh Pant-led side will lock horns with Delhi Capitals during their tournament opener in Vishakhapatnam on March 24.
