IPL 2026: Marco Jansen's growth as a cricketer is inspiring. He has shown brilliant batting prowess and performed consistently with the ball for the Proteas. During this IPL season, he entered as a consistent player for the Punjab-based franchise. This was a tremendous boost for him, having taken up cricket as a career at 17 after giving up rugby.

At 25, Jansen realized he should bowl hard lengths in all formats. He isn't greatly affected by the chaos of T20 cricket, where a bowler needs to use many variations. It's important to note that Australia's Josh Hazlewood inspired him to become the cricketer he is today.

"It doesn't surprise me because Josh Hazlewood does the same thing. People ask the same question about him. How does he just hit the length and pick up wickets? He doesn't get for a lot of runs, and he's consistent as well", Jansen was quoted as saying to the Times of India.

"Josh also has variations. I also have one or two variations. We are both tall bowlers, but we bowl different lengths", he added.

"When I was younger, the problem was that I was trying to bowl similar lengths to other guys. I didn't realize that what I bring to the table is completely different. I have to find my own way to be effective. The last year or so I've been comfortable in my own skin", he said.

His position at the Punjab-based franchise changed. He doesn't use swing because he doesn't bowl with the new ball, so he worked on his bowling with the old ball. This helped him during the Test series against India last year, as he troubled Indian batters. His strategy now is to take wickets. "I am used to taking the first or second over, but I also know I have the skills to adapt. Coming in to bowl the third, fourth, or sometimes fifth over is definitely a different approach," he concluded.
