IPL 2026 Trade News: Intensifying the whispers of his impending transfer to the Chennai-based franchise, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) extended birthday greetings to Rajasthan Royals (RR) captain Sanju Samson, who turned 31 today, November 11.

A major player swap is brewing between the inaugural Indian Premier League champions and five-time winners with CSK poised to trade Ravindra Jadeja to RR in exchange for Sanju Samson.

As the anticipated transfer gains momentum, Chennai Super Kings marked Samson's birthday with a touching message.

"More power to you, Sanju! Wishing you a super birthday!" CSK wrote on their official X account.

The proposed deal remains unconfirmed, with both franchises maintaining silence as the avid cricket fans await the forthcoming retention announcements on November 15.

Many cricket pundits have their own say on Samson's move to CSK. Former India cricketer Mohammed Kaif tipped Samson to take the reins of the five-time champions.

"See, Dhoni runs the team, and if CSK wants Sanju this time, then he is also the future captain. It also means that this is Dhoni’s last year. Why would they want Sanju? Jadeja has been playing for them for a long time (since 2012)," Kaif said.

“The style of batting Sanju Samson has, he is more likely to succeed with the bat in Chennai than Rishabh Pant or KL Rahul. He might come at No. 3 or 4, and he can hit sixes in the middle overs,” he added.

On the other hand, legendary spinner R Ashwin revealed that Samson would not be given the captaincy immediately.

“I don’t think Sanju Samson will get captaincy because this is his first season. And giving someone captaincy in his first year at the franchise, I am not sure about it. Ruturaj will continue. But Samson will definitely be an option going forward to the future, if the deal happens," Ashwin said.
