IPL Retention 2026: The IPL is in the news yet again, post a few months after international cricket began, from the Test series against England to the Ind vs Pak chaos in the Asia Cup to both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli making a comeback in the white-ball series against Australia. As has been the case this year, the IPL had grabbed attention both in summer and a few weeks after RCB had won its first title in June this year.
Back then, the talk was about the performance of a few players and their teams, the points table, the race to the playoffs, and trades.
The IPL player auction is just a few days away, and it is going to be held outside India for the third consecutive time. Ahead of the auction, all 10 teams are supposed to submit their retention list for IPL 2026 this week.

Here’s everything you need to know about the IPL 2026 retention deadline:
When is the deadline for franchises to announce their list of retained players for IPL 2026?
The deadline for all 10 teams to reveal their list of retained players for the next season is 15th November, 5 p.m. IST.
When are the franchises likely to unveil their retention list?
The teams do have the option to reveal their retention list even before the deadline, but they put their announcement on hold till the deadline, and things will be the same this time as well.
How many players will a franchise be able to retain ahead of the IPL 2026 auction?
There are no such restrictions on how many players a team can retain before the mini auctions.
This means that all the teams can retain as many players as they want from the current team, as long as they are following the rules of building a team between 18 and 25 players and are not exceeding the salary cap of Rs 120 crore.
Will teams be able to carry out player trades after announcing their list of retained players?
Yes, the team can carry player trades even after. The trading window begins a month after the season ends and stays open a week before the auction. This window will again open post the auction and shut 30 days before the next season.
All those players who are bought at the auction can't be traded right after the auction, according to the rules.
Will the IPL player retention be telecast live? If so, where can I tune into the live coverage?
The IPL player retention will be telecast live on the Star Sports network, and it will be live-streamed on the JioHotstar app.
