IND vs ENG Series: Former India all-rounder Irfan Pathan, who turned to commentary for past few years, has made an explosive statement regarding Jasprit Bumrah's exploits during India vs England series. Bumrah, who featured in three out of five tests, scalped 14 wickets at an average of 26 as he ended up as one of the most economical bowlers in a series which saw huge totals being compiled up.

However, Pathan pointed out that the effort by Bumrah did not quite live up to the expectations considering his stature as a fast bowler. Pathan also stated that even though he got his name on the honours board but it was not enough for India.

"To be fair, whenever he played, he did perform. He took a five-wicket haul and got his name on the Lord's honours board. But when you are the number one bowler, there is an expectation of number one-level performance, and I felt he did not quite live up to that," Pathan said on his YouTube channel.

The former left-arm pacer insinuated that Bumrah could've pushed himself at the some occasion, however, did not as he analysed the series.

"There were moments, like when a sixth over was needed. I spoke about this during commentary as well. Joe Root had been dismissed by him 11 times, and in that Lord's Test, Bumrah bowled five overs. Just one more over, the sixth, could have pushed harder. I felt he held back a little there. There was also some pick-and-choose, which I have always been against, and that was visible too," he added.

Notably, Bumrah clocked in 119.4 overs across three Tests but failed to be at his best at Old Trafford in Manchester, which was his final test of the series.
