England vs India 4th Test: India and England will face off in the fourth Test at the Old Trafford in Manchester from July 23. England are 2-1 ahead in the five-match series after their famous thrilling win at Lord's.
As India aim to bounce back, they have a do-or-die situation in front and will need to come up with their best possible effort to remain alive in the series. In a piece of good news for the Indian fans, the star pacer Jasprit Bumrah is all set to play the Manchester Test despite so much of talks around regarding his workload management.
As per a report in the Times of India, India have a suffered a major set back as Akash Deep is dealing with a recurring back problem that has flared up again. He faced issues while bowling during the second innings at Lord’s and might not play in Manchester. Eventhough, Anshul Kamboj has been called up as a cover for injured Arshdeep Singh and Akash Deep, India will likely be going with their best combination.
"Jasprit Bumrah and Akash Deep won’t be playing together in the remaining two Tests. It was decided before the tour that Bumrah would only play three Tests in this series, and now with Akash’s back niggle flaring up, we cannot see both of them playing in the XI together," a source was quoted in the report as saying.
"If Bumrah plays in Manchester, then Akash will sit out. At the Oval, Akash will replace Bumrah," the source added.
It is to be noted that it was confirmed ahead of the series by the head coach Gautam Gambhir and the team management that Bumrah will play only three match considering his workload. He started the series in Leeds where India lost the first Test. He sat out for the Edgbaston which India won before returning for the all-important Lord's Test. India suffered a heartbreaking defeat by just 22 runs in the third Test.
Bumrah already has left his impact on the ongoing five-match series, having taken 12 wickets in 2 matches at an average of 21.00. He bagged a five-for in each of the two games he played.
