England Cricket Team vs India National Cricket Team Players: Under the overcast conditions in Birmingham, Ben Stokes-led England invited Team India to bat first on Day 1 of the second test in the five-match series on Wednesday. Shubman Gill, captain of India, informed about three changes in the playing XI from their previous contest which England won by 5 wickets.
The biggest change in India's playing XI was resting Jasprit Bumrah as part of workload management. "Just to manage his workload. We did get a good break and this is an important match for us. But the third Test being at Lord's, we think there'll be more in that pitch so we'll use him there," Gill said.
Akash Deep has replaced the talismanic bowler in the XI.
Along with Bumrah, Sai Sudharsan and Shardul Thakur will make way for Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar. Karun Nair has been granted another chance after a low score in the first test.
Gill also stated that the team management was tempted to play Kuldeep in the XI but wanted to strengthen his lower-order, considering the collapses in the first test.
"We were tempted to play Kuldeep but looking at the last match, our lower order didn't do well, so decided to add some depth to the batting," Gill concluded.
For England, there is no change in the playing XI.
