England vs India 3rd Test: Joe Root entered the history books as he smashed another Test century against India. Root came up with an incredible effort with the bat during the third Test between England and India at the Lord's on Friday.

Root smashed a boundary off Jasprit Bumrah on the first delivery of the second day to reach his 37th Test century. He went past Steve Smith and Rahul Dravid's tally of 36 Test hundreds. Root hit the century in 192 deliveries on the back of 10 boundaries.

This is Root's 11th century against India and a record eighth Test ton at the iconic Lord's Cricket Ground. The right-handed batter also shattered several significant records as he made his first century of the ongoing five-match series.

Root equalled Steve Smith for the record of most Test centuries against India. While Smith has 11 such scores in only 46 innings, Root has reached the mark in his 60th innings after becoming the first batter to smash 3000 Test runs against India. While Smith averages (58.90) against India, Root stands in a comparable range with marginal decimal differences at 58.73.

The ongoing third India-England Test at Lord's is Root's 33rd Test against India, and he has 3055 runs to his name. Smith, on the other hand, has played 24 Tests against India, and he has also scored 11 centuries.

Before completing his century on Friday, Root equalled Kallis and Ponting’s record of 103 50+ scores in Test cricket on Thursday. Only Sachin Tendulkar of India has crossed the 50-run mark in Test cricket more times than Root now.

Root has been a magnificent batter for England in the longest format of the game and remains consistent with every passing match or series. He showed great commitment on the first day of the Lord's Test and kept things going for England. The former English skipper remained unbeaten on 99 at the end of the first day. He stitched an 88-run partnership for the fifth wicket with skipper Ben Stokes.
