BCCI is all set to look for a new head coach for the Indian team with the current coach Rahul Dravid reportedly unlikely to re-apply.

With BCCI inviting fresh applications, it looks certain that the Men in Blue will have a new coach on the job after the T20 World Cup 2024.

One of the few contenders expected for the job is former Australia coach Justin Langer who currently is the head coach of Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2024.

Langer was asked about whether he will be applying for the all-important job and he came up with some interesting thoughts calling it an 'extraordinary role'.

“Well, I am curious. I’ve never ever thought about it. I have deep respect for any international coach because I understand the pressure, but coaching the Indian team would be an extraordinary role. From what I’ve seen with the amount of talent I’ve seen in this country, it would be fascinating,” TOI quoted Langer as saying.

The former Aussie batter went on to mention the pressure of being the coach of an international team.

“I went straight from playing to coaching – as an assistant coach, which is the best coach job in the world. You work about two hours a day, everyone’s your best friend, and you’ve got no accountability. Then you become head coach, oh man, then you work about 16 hours a day. No one likes you. And you’ve got 100% accountability!

I took a break from coaching for two and a half years for the first time in my life (after the Australia stint). I had to do my writing, my speaking, I did my board roles. I had complete control. It’s like being a batsman, again, there’s freedom in that,” he added.

Notably, Langed coached the Australian team for four years, having taken over from Darren Lehmann and did a great job of recovering the damage done after the ball-tempering scandal (sandpaper gate).

Under Langer's tenure, Australia lost two Test series at home against India but they clinched the T20 World Cup title in 2021 in UAE.

He oversaw the two Ashes series wins in 2019 and 2021 and the Australian team also claimed the No.1 ranking in Tests and T20Is in 2020.

After ending his tenure with the Australian team on a negative note in 2022, Langer was announced as the new head cosch of LSG ahead of the IPL 2024.
