JE Sports Desk: A maiden call-up to play for the country is a huge honour for a sportsperson. Kolkata Knight Riders' (KKR) middle order sensation Rinku Singh finally earned that call-up after being named in the Asian Games 2023 squad scheduled to be played in China starting September 19.

Notably, Rinku missed out on an opportunity when the squad for the 5-match T20I series againt West Indies was announced. However, the 25-year-old finally got his due after being named in the 15-member squad for Asian Games. His IPL franchise posted a congratulatory tweet in which they displayed him in an Indian jersey. A list of stand-by players has also been declared, which includes Yash Thakur, Sai Kishore, Venkatesh Iyer, Deepak Hooda, Sai Sudarsan.

Notably, cricket has featured twice in the Asian Games before -- in 2010 and 2014 -- but India didn't take part either time. As in the 2010 and 2014 editions, T20 will be the format of the cricket event in Hangzhou.
