Kolkata Weather Report, KKR vs RCB IPL 2025: Kolkata Knight Riders are all set for their title defence as they face their biggest rivals Royal Challengers Bengaluru in the first match of the IPL 2025 at the iconic Eden Gardens on Saturday, March 22.

The opening match of the 18th edition of the cash-rich league faces a significant threat from inclement weather.

With an orange alert already issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for Kolkata and surrounding regions, forecasts of rain and thunderstorms have cast a shadow over the IPL 2025 opener. As per the forecast, the weather is all set to disrupt both the match and the glitzy opening ceremony planned ahead of it.

Ahead of the action, both KKR and RCB had to wrap up their training sessions on the eve of the match earlier as rain arrived an hour later. Notably, the Eden Gardens is among the few venues equipped with full ground cover, ensuring the pitch and outfield remain protected.

Moderate rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds, to parts of the state, including Kolkata, is expected to be witnessed from March 20 through March 22.

As per AccuWeather.com, the forecast remains a bit mixed with the beginning of the afternoon with the probability of rain dropping gradually. As the day progresses, the rain threat diminishes further initially, with a 10 per cent chance of precipitation a while before the toss which is scheduled for 7 PM IST.

However, the IMD's thunderstorm warning persists, and Accuweather indicates a potential rise in rain probability to 70 per cent as the night progresses, suggesting that any play could face interruptions in the later part of the contest.

Practice sessions of both KKR and RCB were cut short on Friday due to intermittent drizzle.

When it comes to temperature on Saturday during the KKR vs RCB IPL 2025 match in Kolkata, it is expected to see a high of 29 degrees Celsius and a low of 22 degrees Celsius. The humidity levels are expected to hover around 65 per cent.
