India vs England 5th Test: A sudden and intense downpour at The Oval interrupted play and forced the umpires to call for an early lunch with India at 72/2 on Day 1 of the ongoing fifth and Final Test of the series against England on Thursday.

Due to a torrential downpour at The Oval the early Lunch was called with India at 72/2, Sai Sudharsan (25) and Shubman Gill (15) standing unbeaten at the crease after the visitors lost openers early.

Decided to bowl first, England made early inroads, as Gus Atkinson struck, dismissing opener Yashasvi Jaiswal for 2, who was trapped LBW in front of the wicket early.

The blistering bowling display was followed by pace bowler Chris Woakes with his pinpoint back of length delivery, reducing India to 38 for 2 by cleaning up KL Rahul's (14 off 40 balls) stumps.

After a double clean-up, Sudharsan and Gill provided stability on a gloomy day, adding 34 unbeaten for the third wicket before rain swept in.

A torrential downpour struck without warning, catching everyone off guard as players bolted off the ground and groundstaff hastily scrambled to secure the covers.
