Mithun Manhas has become the 37th President of BCCI. He has become the first person from Jammu and Kashmir to lead the BCCI and was chosen unopposed in the AGM in Mumbai on Sunday.
Manhas has become the first uncapped player to become the BCCI's head.
Manhas has replaced Roger Binny, who recently resigned from the post after turning 70. Binny, who was a part of India's 1983 World Cup team, worked as the BCCI's head for three years.
He had applied for this post earlier this month. His appointment implied, according to the Supreme Court-appointed Lodha Committee, that an ex-player should be a part of the board.
Hailing from Jammu, Manhas is an ex-Delhi cricketer who had played in 157 First-Class matches, 130 List-A, and 55 IPL matches between 1998 and 2018. He has a brilliant record in First-class cricket as he has scored 9714 runs, which includes 27 hundreds. He had also scored 4126 runs in List-A cricket.
Although Manhas' appointment might have surprised everyone, he isn't new to cricket administration.
Till the end of his playing days, Manhas, who played as a middle-order batter, returned to Jammu and Kashmir, where he played for a year and then joined cricket administration. He was working in the sub-committee, which was started by the BCCI in order to work for the Jammu and Kashmir Cricket Association (JKCA).
Apart from cricket administration, Manhas has also worked as a coach for teams like Kings XI Punjab, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Gujarat Titans. He has also worked as a consultant for Bangladesh's U-19 men's cricket team.
At the same time, Devajit Sakia will continue to work as BCCI's secretary along with vice president Rajeev Shukla. Prabhtej Bhatia has become BCCI's joint secretary.
Ex-India spinner Raghuram Bhat will be working as the BCCI's new treasurer.
