Mohammed Shami Exclusive: India's celebrated pacer Mohammed Shami, in a free-wheeling chat during an event, revealed why he might have a better record in 2nd innings rather than the first. In a response to a question by Jagran English, Shami in his own candid way, quipped about being slightly unlucky in the first innings due to dropped catches.

"Dropped catches maybe (laughs)... I believe in bowling at full intensity no matter which innings is going on. Not just me, it is the case with every fast bowler in the Indian team. Moreover, I take whatever comes in my way as a bowler," he said.

"The records in both innings may project something else but sometimes you are unlucky too. But I don't regret it one bit as they are wickets at the end of the day," the 34-year-old told in an event organised by Eugenix Hair Sciences.

Shami also talked about being free of pain but acknowledged the need to demonstrate his match fitness ahead of the crucial tour of Australia starting next month. Shami, who has been out of action since the ODI World Cup final last November, emphasized his intention to play at least "one or two" domestic games to strengthen his case for selection.

Shami's absence has been largely due to knee swelling, which delayed his recovery from an ankle injury sustained last year. Despite bowling at full speed during India's net session following their opening Test against New Zealand in Bengaluru, the 33-year-old seamer feels that proving his fitness in domestic cricket is essential.

"I am very happy with how I bowled yesterday. I was bowling from half run-up before that because I didn't want to take too much load. But yesterday, I decided to go full tilt, and I bowled at a 100 per cent."

"The result was good. I am 100 per cent pain-free. Everyone has been wondering for a long time about whether I will make it for the Australia series but it is still some time away."

His fitness will be closely monitored, given that the tour of Australia is a marquee event, and India will want their leading fast bowler to be in peak condition. Shami is considered a key figure in India's pace attack, and his performance in domestic matches could play a significant role in securing his spot on the team.
