India's star pacer Mohammed Shami, who has been out of action since November 2023, is set to return to competitive cricket after almost a year when Bengal face Madhya Pradesh in a Ranji Trophy match in Indore on Wednesday.

Shami was last seen in action in the ODI World Cup final against Australia on November 19, 2023,

As per Sportstar, Shami has yet to join the team but Bengal coach Laxmi Ratan Shukla confirmed that the star pacer will reach Indore later today. He also confirmed that the speedster will also feature in Bengal's fixture.

Shami received the required clearance from the National Cricket Academy (NCA).

"Shami, who has been out of competitive action since India's ODI World Cup final in Ahmedabad last November, will spearhead the Bengal pace bowling attack against Madhya Pradesh," the statement from the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) read.

Shami's Australia tour prospects

Shami wasn't selected in India's 18-member Test squad for the five-match series Australia tour however the latest news has offered some hope that the star speedster might be added to the squad in the second half in case he confirms his match fitness.

Meanwhile, the first Test between India and Australia will begin on November 22 in Perth followed by the second on December 6 in Adelaide.
