Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra believes that the demands of coaching might deter legendary wicketkeeper-batter MS Dhoni from taking up the role due to its "difficult job."

With Gautam Gambhir's tenure as head coach producing mixed results, speculation about possible successors grew, with many believing that MS Dhoni seems doubtful to take up a coaching role anytime soon.

“That is a big one. I don’t think he is interested. Coaching is a difficult job. Coaching keeps you as busy as you were when playing and sometimes even more than that. You have a family and you say that you have done the same thing your entire life, you have lived your life out of a suitcase and you don’t want to do that job now," Chopra said on his YouTube channel.

Chopra indicated that Dhoni is likely to consider coaching if he wants to give back to Indian cricket.

“That is why a lot of players don’t get into coaching and even if they do, it’s a two-month IPL stint. However, if you become a full-time Indian head coach, it’s a commitment of 10 months a year," Chopra added.

Meanwhile, MS Dhoni has a forgettable outing in the IPL 2025 while leading the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the tournament mid-season due to injury. The five-time champions finished at the bottom of the table.
