The legendary former Indian captain, MS Dhoni, has provided an eagerly awaited update on his knee injury and his anticipated return to the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2024 with the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Dhoni, who led CSK to their fifth IPL title in 2023, was hampered by a knee injury throughout the season, which restricted his on-field appearances. Following CSK's triumphant campaign, Dhoni underwent surgery on his knee and has now revealed that he is progressing well in his recovery.

During an event in Bengaluru on October 26, the 42-year-old icon confirmed that his doctors have assured him of feeling better by November. He also shared that his knee successfully survived the surgical procedure, and he is currently undergoing rehabilitation.

At the event, Dhoni clarified his retirement status, emphasizing that he has retired from international cricket, while continuing his association with the Chennai Super Kings. This distinction delighted the crowd, particularly CSK fans, who have been eager for Dhoni's continued involvement in the IPL.

ā€œKnee has survived the operation, going through the rehab patch, the doctor told me you would feel much better by November. But no problem in day-to-day routine,ā€ said Dhoni.

Dhoni's resilience and commitment to his team and the sport continue to be an inspiration for cricket enthusiasts, and his return to the IPL in 2024 is eagerly anticipated by fans of the game and CSK supporters in particular.

ā€œCircumstantially, it’s the best time to announce retirement. The easy thing for me is to say is thank you and retire. But the amount of love I have received from CSK fans, it would be a gift for them to (see me) play one more season,ā€ Dhoni had said at the Narendra Modi Stadium after CSK beat Gujarat Titans in May.
